Light up Eye is a free to attend, family oriented lantern parade. It’s an event the like of which has never been seen before in the village. On Saturday 12 November from 6.30pm a lantern parade will make its way through the centre of the village.

The parade will travel from Manor Farm Community Centre, along the back of Cleve Place and Merevale Drive, up Bath Road, along the High Street and ending at St Matthew’s Church.

If you spot anti-social behaviour please do not approach the culprits but report to the police on 101 or on their website and make sure you ask for a crime number. Come along to the Leeds Hall on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November between 10am and 4pm and share your thoughts about the way in which Eye should grow. Refreshments will be available.

The parish council will then be putting together a group of local people to develop a neighbourhood plan that will influence the future of our village by helping to determine planning applications using unique local knowledge.

A Community led initiative to reduce speeding vehicles & make our village safer,

The Eye Speedwatch scheme needs volunteers now to get actively involved in monitoring the speed of vehicles travelling through our village. The owner of any vehicle seen exceeding the speed limit is sent an advisory letter by the Constabulary, explaining that speeding is unacceptable and asking them to be more considerate.

It’s not enforcement, it’s about educating road users to drive safely and to be made aware of the dangers of speeding.

There’s no time commitment. We run sessions when we can, and it only takes an hour of your time to attend. If you would like more information on how to help make our village safer please or e-mail speedwatch@cambs.pnn.police.uk

Eye Parish Council is saddened by the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. She was our longest-reigning monarch who dedicated her life to the service of the country and its people. Our thoughts are with the family Royal Family at this time and her passing is a day of historic sadness for us all.

It is now time to reflect on the late Queen’s reign and the many events which were part of her life and ours, and which will continue to influence our lives in years to come.

The Parish Council will have a book of condolence in the Community Centre from Saturday.

On the Queens death the throne passed to former Prince of Wales, who will now be known as King Charles III.

There was a good turnout at Sunday’s Big lunch at Manor Farm Community Centre in the village despite the poor weather. Because of the weather, everything was moved indoors but nonetheless, a great afternoon was had by all.

Also attending was the Deputy Luitenant Mr Jasper Singh and local MP Paul Bristow. The Deputy Lieutenants represent HM The Queen on the Lord-Lieutenant’s behalf if she is unable to attend an event to which she has been invited.

Eye Parish Council is saddened to announce the death of the chairman of the council, Michael Holmes who passed away in hospital after a short illness on Saturday 30th April.

Michael was married to Pauline and together they brought up their two children in the village. He had lived in the village for most of his life and was the village baker until his retirement, he also took an active part in the church, often doing the church flowers.

Michael was an active member of Eye Parish Council and chairman of the council for many years. He was always around the village ready to help in any way he could, supporting whoever needed it and he knew a lot about the village that was not written down.

In 2020 Michael was invited to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party to recognise his long service to the parish. Sadly due to the pandemic this didn’t take place, but nevertheless, he was honoured to have been nominated to attend.

Micheal will be sorely missed by the Parish Council and our sincere condolences go to his wife and family.

The Big Lunch for The Queens Platinum Jubilee will be held at Manor Farm Community Centre on Sunday 5 June from 12pm.

There will be music, a bar, craft stalls, a picnic and a children’s fancy dress competition. The fancy dress competition will be at 12.15 pm with a Jubilee/Royal Family Theme. There are two groups, seven and under and eight and over.

Bring your own food, chairs or blankets for the giant picnic. There will be limited seating/tables for those who may find it difficult to sit on the ground.

We are all hoping for a nice today so come down and join in this fabulous community event.

To note: The car park at the rear of the community centre will be closed to vehicles for the duration of the event.
