Eye lantern parade is set to return on Sunday 17 November 2024, 4 – 6pm. In 2022, around 1,000 people turned out for the event, parading through the village with their hand-made lanterns or watching from the pavement. Peterborough Presents have asked us to share some information about the event which may help you plan.
Is the parade free and do you need a ticket?
It is free. People who have made a lantern in workshops will be invited to bring their hand-made lanterns and join the parade. If you have been to a workshop, Peterborough Presents will be in touch with you directly, or via your group (Brownies etc) with details on how to book your place on the parade. The parade is also brilliant fun to watch the parade as it weaves through the village. You can easily watch from the pavements along the route. Closer to the event we will be advertising the rough times that the parade will join at different points along the route.
Which roads will be closed?
To create a safe and enjoyable event we have arranged for a number of roads to be closed for a short period during the parade. This will impact the following roads including their connecting roads: Lindisfarne Rd ,St Olaves Rd, Deerhurst Way, Cartmel Way, High Street (therefore also Bath Rd). Where possible, and safe to do so, we will try to open roads as soon as the parade has passed through. Road closures have been authorised by Peterborough City Council and the National Highways Agency. Avanti Traffic Solutions will be managing the road closure and implementing signage.
Will any buses be affected?
Due to road closures, buses will not serve Peterborough Road, Cartmel Way or the High Street from 4 – 6pm. The last stop before Eye will be Blue Diamond garden centre. Buses will be diverted via the A47. A temporary bus stop will be set up on Crowland Road to replace the ones on the High Street. This will impact 3 – 4 buses arriving or departing between 4 – 6pm.
